The silky smooth cloth surface really comes into play here, bringing with it an incredibly low amount of friction, and great feedback that feels spot-on. A great mouse might feel fine on its own, but when placed on top of this mouse pad, it feels much more precise in the hand, and the device feels less weighty, gliding almost-weightlessly across the material with little effort required of the user. Regardless of whether you are using a basic mouse, or a ‘premium’ mouse, the difference is still the same. If you had any pre-conceived thoughts that this mouse pad would only bring subtle differences, you can throw those right away. When placed underneath a computer mouse, the benefits of this mouse pad become immediately apparent. ![]() ![]() With the smallest costing as little as £4.99, the medium size costing £7.99, and the largest coming in at an admirable £12.95, you really can’t accuse Cooler Master of over-pricing this line of products, especially when competitors are charging a similar amount, with some even charging higher prices. The price of these mouse pads are also incredibly good value, especially when compared with other similar products on the internet. The size just feels right, and isn’t as obtuse as others also on the market that near-enough fill an entire desk. The review unit supplied was that of the large version, and it left more than enough room regardless of if I was doing some hardcore gaming, or simply doing work. Whatever size you may pick up, you are given a generous amount of space to use your mouse within, but I would strongly urge the use of the largest size on offer, as that is the most adaptive of the three, easily accommodating for whatever use you have in mind. The Speed-RX comes in three varying sizes, ranging from the smallest measured at 250mm x 210mm, to the largest at 450mm x 350mm. The top of the pad is covered in a soft cloth material too that feels smooth to the touch, leaving little friction between it and the mouse, creating an exceptionally smooth user experience. The whole pad also has a nice weight to it and it won’t slide around when under use, a feat helped by the grippy under-side that clings to any surface. With the base material being made of a hefty 5mm thick rubber material, the mouse pad is particularly durable, and feels well-made to the touch. Due to its ‘standard’ looks, it shouldn’t look out of place at all alongside your keyboard and mouse set up. In a time where computer accessories are becoming more and more like over-the-top Sci-Fi movie props, it’s good to see leading companies stripping back on visual aesthetics on products that simply don’t require it. It’s nothing flashy, but that’s what is so appealing about its appearance. The Speed-RX is rather conservative in its appearance, sporting no detailed patterning or decals, but instead going for an all-black design with the product logo displayed in the lower-right corner. It is Cooler Master that has recently come forward with their latest range of mouse pads, and the Speed-RX is certainly a great treat for the gaming community. Yes, though the computer mouse has vastly improved since the days of trackball mouse technology and ‘Tiny’ desktop PC’s, there is still nothing that betters the glide and usability that only a mouse pad can bring. While owning a mouse pad these days is often something met with a puzzled reaction, it is those that haven’t given up on them that understand their benefits even in this day and age.
